Hello fellow foodies – I have some very exciting news to share with you. Things are heating up this June. We are heading into New York City with the rest of the food world to gear up for the annual Summer Fancy Food Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. This culinary event is the largest specialty food trade show in North America. Annually, it brings specialty food’s top manufacturers, buyers, and leaders all together under one roof for three days. More than 180,000 products, 25,000 buyers, and 2,500 exhibitors will be part of the show. Now foodies, that’s something to get thrilled about!
This year, the proud partner country will be Tunisia. It is an honor to say that I will be working with them as a chef and representative for their olive oils, and lending social media support via my Facebook and Twitter pages where you can all follow along. I’ll be joined by Tunisian chef, Rafik Tlatl of Hôtel les Jasmins. Together we will cook up Tunisian culinary delights to showcase their olive oils. Tunisia has done a fabulous job of skyrocketing its olive oils to a worldwide audience. You can check an article that I wrote in May of last year on my Huffington Post column to learn more about: Tunisia’s Liquid Gold Olive Oil Production
Tunisia has struck liquid gold with their high-quality, low chemical, non-industrial, hand-picked olive oil production. This country has risen all the way up the olive tree of success to become the world’s second largest olive oil producing nation. This is not a small feat and something that the Tunisian government and the dedicated olive oil producers can be very proud of.
Ultimately 80% of the olive oils produced in Tunisia are Extra Virgin and classified as natural since the majority of Tunisian farmers do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This leads into the ever-so-popular organic sector. Amazingly, Tunisia’s organic production is reaching 25,000 tons per year, 40% of which is exported throughout the world.
Needless to say, olive oil plays a very important role in Tunisian culture and in the Tunisian economy. The olive oils that they supply to the world are of high quality and now they are excited to share a Taste of Tunisia with you at this year’s Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.
This is going to be one exciting show backed by one impressive partner country. You will not want to miss it. So, food friends, mark your calendars for the 26th, 27th & 28th of June. I’ll be on Level 3, booth 1420 at the Tunisian Pavilion.
Please make sure to head over say hello and sample some authentic and delectable foods using olive oils from Tunisia. Then walk through the entire Tunisian Pavilion to taste all the delicious delights that this country has to offer.
This is going to be a fun and interesting event to follow along on my Facebook and Twitter pages as I lend social media support with recipes, pictures and video posts throughout the 3-day event. And, from myself and the entire Tunisian team, we hope to see you there!
